Oct 24th 2011 Max Hahn left his house in Muang Ake fleeing from the flood, like so many other people living in Thailand. He practiced for a month on Koh Mak, but his heart was with his mom, who he did not see for almost 2 months. Then we separated as i had to go to work, Max went to Korat for two month with no practice whatsoever.
When he returned to Bangkok early January he found his home devastated, faced having to go to school 6 days a week with a compressed schedule and again did not have enough time to bring out his true skill.
But he practiced whenever he could, in the dead and stinking garden, among paint fumes and construction noises. Pushed in 45min here and there after school and before homework. Soldiered on.
Today he delivered a grand score and left the trauma this flood caused behind him. The scores he shot were exactly what he had shown in practice, which given the stress in the tournament is amazing. Normally he will drop about 10 points - not this time. He used the 120 seconds given and stood there alone battling his nerves, wanting to deliver. Put down the bow three times to gather composure. This is the new and improved Max. Great to watch, at least for me :]
I am deeply impressed by his and the other boys [we all went through this disaster last year] determination and was a bit speechless after the tournament. This is his achievement and i want no part of it. He is so very happy now.
In case our friends from Phuket and Chiang Mai would have showed up we would not have been so high up on the leaderboard, but for Max and his mates this was a boost in confidence. Max delivered under pressure, Ing make a glorious return to archery, we all hope he will stick with it and Tanthai showed beautiful form [once he made the transition he will strike back :] ]
