Number 8 is my lucky number. Very nice day out today and boy,oh boy what a fight Max had to fight. The heat, a big nosebleed in the first round [and lasted for 3 rounds] and a lot of good archers around him.

He battled his way through and was very happy at the end. Well done my boy and thanks to all our friends for the coaching, the camera [ i had forgotten mine], the sandwiches, the kind words, tissues and ice for the nosebleed and and and ... Thank you. See you soon

If you want to see who won you'll have to watch the VDO :bullseye:

After big events like this we sometimes feel a “vacuum “, as if all the preparation and the excitement leaves a hole in our lives, a void only to be filled by preparing for and participating in the next competition.

Our kids dedicate a lot of their already meager spare-time to our sport and so do their coaches and the parents. Max came home 1830 during the week as he had to catch up on work to be skipped over the weekend. His teachers helped and found the time to put in the extra effort to make sure he can follow his dream and stay on track in school. That is the mark of a good teacher. On Saturday Max missed his good friend’s birthday party, Hanna [the tennis coach] and my wife made sure they are back in time so that Max would not feel too bad about not being able to hang out with his friends. When we woke up Hanna on Sunday 05:45 she said: “why is this tournament at night?” and initially cuddled back up in her blanket, but when she saw that we are getting ready and that Max was looking at bit weary, she went downstairs and helped prepare breakfast, so that Max and his tired father get out of the house in time.

Apart from my son and his archery equipment and a cooler I had forgotten everything I intended to bring along [chair, picnic table, tri-pod, masala tea, binoculars, towels, tissue, telephone, laptop, ….]. Truth be told, without a helping mom lending me her daughter’s camera there would be no video. Thank you and CONGRATULATIONS on the great win.

Once we got there I met quite a few tired fathers, which made me feel better :] One of them had travelled from Chiang Mai and we missed our “cheering buddy” from Phuket very much. Next time you must come as well, you hear?

The fireman’s daughter did very well and God only knows what it will take to extinguish the fire of passion in her parents’ hearts. It’s that fire that makes them drive all the way to BKK on Saturday,, shoot and drive back on Sunday. Now there is a dedicated mom & dad for you:]

Thantai, our true champ, showed up with his dad [who looked tired too] and was miserable that he could not shoot. Don’t worry buddy – you’ll be there soon and yes you still are the number 1.

Together with his dad he cheered on the little kid in the orange hat. That kid fought a battle against his nerves, the heat, a big nosebleed and the fact that he found himself in the land of the archery giants. Everybody was shooting well and he now knows where he needs to be in the future.

Thanks for love and care, the tissue papers and cold towels. For a brief moment I was afraid that he would quit, but then he sucked it up [quite literally – eeeeew ] and soldiered on. That was my proudest moment with him, as I could see his determination. It is not in times of glory where champions are forged, it is in the fire of defeat where a man’s character comes through. It is when all odds are against you, when your best will not be good enough, that is when you make the great decisions in life. Will I fight on, will I dedicate more time, will I study harder so I have more time for practice, or will I give up? Right now he is fighting and the flame in his heart to stay on this path is strong.

Max said that for him this was the happiest day in a very long time, as he enjoyed all your kind words [Coaches, parents, So, Pech, Thanthai, Champ, Pooboy and his sister, Nutty, Sunee, all the rest of the guys he knows from the range] and was impressed that the “big” guys find time to talk to him and cheer him on, even though he had no hope to win, or even do well. This is what makes it worth his while for him. The team, the club, the coaches, the sense of belonging that is so important in a young girl’s/man’s life, the passion, his sport. All is well.

Maximilian gave his all and I think he did well and so did all “our” kids. Watching them shoot I felt as if I witnessed the results of a conversation with a friend starting to come true. Sitting in a coffee-shop nearby our office many some 4 years ago he had told me about this dream to help grow archery in Thailand. He spoke about a team of good and motivated coaches, who would be more than just people to learn from – he was looking for passion. I think that his passion has transcendent into the AT coaching school and manifests itself in that small, but dedicated team of kids, coaches and parents, who all drive towards improvement. What are we supposed to do with the void, that gap in our hearts that completing this tournament has left? Move on I say, stay together, stay strong, keep practicing – fight on. Next “refill” is Kao Yai :bullseye:

How will they be in the future?

The answer is out there.

Don't let them "try it", but let them "do it !"

You're right coach and the lyrics of that song say it all.

Happy for the medalists !

Happy for he coaches, who take pride in their work!

Nike says : Just do it and i think it's not about winning, it's about doing what you enjoy. Try to excel at what you love.

Adidas saya: Nothing is impossible and i know that is true because Max feels no limit to what he will be able to achieve, which makes him attempt what other people may say makes no sense/ is impossible. He is going for it and is happy with not being held back. Like i said - he feels that this was a very good day, even though he did not win.

Above all: Congratulations to all the kids, who show up every week, dedicate their time and enjoy the highs and lows of our sport :bullseye:
