Last week I saw a bow on the archery range that made me think about home

The Hun stopped their push into Europe in what is knows as Hungary now. There they mixed with slaves and other European tribes, who much later merged into the Austro-Hungarian empire. I am no historian, but I could imagine that somewhere between Budapest and Vienna must be the geographical separation between the Mongolian/Hungarian bows and the Roman bow.

Hungarian horseback archery. This is an annual re-enactment - cool spectacle. You can feel the emotion and boy would I love to be in that group of 2000 and more archers letting loose.

Max is very interested in those riders and admires their archery skill - no surprise there. I think I'll look for a place where he can learn horse riding and maybe they'll let him shoot some arrows :] .

Unfortunately my little archer has to lay down his weapons for a while and can not come to the range this weekend as he has to study for his midterm exam.:D see you in two weeks.

WATCH this man shoot

PS: I lied about the Austrian horses in the VDOs.

In fact, riding in Thailand is not difficult. But to engage in other activities with the horse is difficult (fencing, archery).

Now, I'm working with the riding school in such matters.

Is what fearful defenders of Vienna called a cloud of lighting fast riders who appear of nowhere, striking with deadly force. I have seen re-enactments of this and it is bloody impressive. It took Prince Eugen and his army and Count Sobiesky and his fearless Polish knights to finally stop the onslaught and by doing so they created the Austro-Hungarian empire.

The Hungarian archers and their riders stayed a very proud and most effective military unit. An other example of mongols offspring are the Ukrainian/Russian/Georgian Kosaks rider also know for their skill and ruthlessness.

I want to pass this one to Max and Hanna [ my little amazon] and have them feel the power of a pounding horse beneath them and maybe try to let loose a couple of arrows in the process.

You know i am all about letting my kids dream the way i did - it's about culture and passing on the flame:bullseye:
